Best Mexican Restaurants in Las Vegas 2026: Tacos to Cantinas

Las Vegas has a large Mexican-American community, and the best Mexican food in the valley reflects it: Tijuana-style taquerías with meat carved off the spit, Baja seafood shacks, and family restaurants that have been open for decades. The Strip has a few good options too, but most of the places locals talk about are a short drive away.

This guide covers restaurants whose own sites we checked in September 2026 for current locations. Menus, hours and prices change often, so check with the restaurant before you make a special trip. Several places named in older guides have closed; see the end of the article.

Tacos El Gordo

Tacos El Gordo is the name most locals give when you ask where to get tacos. It is a Tijuana-style taquería, and the company's locations page lists three open Las Vegas branches: 3041 S Las Vegas Blvd on the north-central Strip, 2560 W Sunset Road in the southwest, and 3260 Losee Road in North Las Vegas. Its fourth address, 1724 E Charleston Blvd, is listed as closed every day.

• What to order: adobada, the spiced marinated pork carved from the spit, is the one to start with. Carne asada and chorizo are also on the featured menu.
• Beyond tacos: mulitas (meat and cheese between two tortillas) and vampiros (a crisped tortilla with cheese and meat) are worth trying if you haven't had them.
• When: the Strip location is popular late at night and lines can be long after midnight. The locations page lists 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Strip branch, on the north part of the Boulevard, is the most convenient for visitors. If you have a car, the Sunset Road and Losee Road branches are usually quieter.

On the Strip: Border Grill and Javier's

Border Grill (Mandalay Bay)

Border Grill is from chef-owners Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, James Beard Award winners who opened the original Border Grill on Melrose in Los Angeles in 1985. The Mandalay Bay restaurant serves lunch and dinner and is, by the restaurant's own description, known for its weekend brunch. The kitchen describes its food as modern Mexican built on seasonal, conscientiously sourced ingredients.

• Why go: the most reliable sit-down Mexican meal inside a Strip resort, with lighter, fresher cooking than a typical cantina.
• Good to know: it is the south end of the Strip, so it pairs well with a show or the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay.

Javier's (ARIA)

Javier's at ARIA is the Strip's upscale Mexican restaurant, better suited to a celebration or a business dinner than a quick taco. ARIA's restaurant pages block automated checks, so we couldn't confirm current hours or menu prices: book, or check ARIA's site, before you go.

El Dorado Cantina

El Dorado Cantina's Strip location is at 3025 Sammy Davis Jr. Drive, one block west of the Boulevard behind the north-central resorts. It also has locations at Tivoli Village (430 S Rampart Blvd) and on W Sunset Road in the southwest, plus sister Cantina locations in Centennial and North Las Vegas.

• What sets it apart: the restaurant advertises non-GMO and organic ingredients and no seed oils, frying in wagyu beef tallow instead.
• Brunch: on the Strip location's page, brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Best for: groups who want a festive sit-down meal and margaritas without Strip-resort prices.

Local Institutions

Lindo Michoacan

The original Lindo Michoacan on Desert Inn Road opened on January 6, 1990, with 12 tables, and has grown to three dining rooms seating more than 300 people. The family now also runs Lindo Michoacan Summerlin, Lindo Michoacan La Loma and a location at Palace Station. The menu is broad: fajitas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, seafood and cocktails, with the cooking of Michoacán, the western Mexican state known for carnitas.

• Happy hour: Monday to Friday, 2 to 5 p.m., with specials on margaritas, beer, wine and well drinks.
• Desserts: made fresh daily, including churros, flan, sopapillas and a flambéed dessert.
• Best for: families and anyone who wants a long, sit-down Mexican dinner in a room full of locals.

If you're staying at Palace Station, there's a branch in the building.

Roberto's Taco Shop

Roberto's describes itself as serving "fast, traditional Mexican food" for 60 years, with more than 80 locations across California, Nevada and Texas, many of them in the Las Vegas valley. It is the city's default late-night burrito: carne asada, California burritos, rolled tacos. Hours vary by branch, so check the one near you.

Baja Seafood: Bajamar

Bajamar Seafood + Tacos was opened by the Puchi family in 2017 to bring a Baja California surf-shack style of seafood to Las Vegas. There are three locations: 1615 S Las Vegas Blvd (between the Strip and downtown), 12 Pacific Ave in Henderson and 7960 S Rainbow Blvd in the southwest.

• Hours at Las Vegas Blvd: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and to 6 p.m. Sunday. It is a lunch and early-dinner spot, not a late-night one.
• What to order: fish and shrimp tacos and ceviche are the reason to go.

Lucia Mexican Grill (Virgin Hotels)

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, on Paradise Road east of the Strip, now lists Lucia Mexican Grill as its Mexican restaurant, serving modern Mexican dishes and hand-crafted margaritas with $5 Taco Tuesday specials. Older guides point to Casa Calavera here; the hotel no longer lists it. Handy if you're staying at Virgin Hotels or near the airport.

What to Order

• Adobada / al pastor: spiced pork cooked on a vertical spit. Tacos El Gordo is the classic Vegas order.
• Carne asada: grilled beef, the benchmark of any taquería.
• Mulitas and vampiros: Tijuana-style specials that add cheese and a crisped tortilla.
• Carnitas: slow-cooked pork, the specialty of Michoacán; order it at a Michoacán restaurant.
• Fish tacos and ceviche: Baja-style seafood; go to a seafood specialist like Bajamar.
• Mole: the complex sauces of central and southern Mexico; look for them at sit-down restaurants.

Tips for Eating Mexican in Vegas

• Leave the Strip for tacos. Most of the best taquerías are off the Boulevard. Tacos El Gordo's Strip branch is the exception.
• Book the sit-down restaurants. Border Grill and Javier's get busy on weekend nights; taquerías don't take reservations.
• Use happy hour. Lindo Michoacan's weekday 2–5 p.m. happy hour is one example; many restaurants run one. See our happy hours guide.

Closed or Moved: Don't Rely on Older Guides

• Diablo's Cantina at The Mirage: gone with The Mirage, which closed in July 2024.
• Casa Calavera at Virgin Hotels: no longer listed; Virgin's Mexican restaurant is now Lucia Mexican Grill.
• Chayo Mexican Kitchen at The LINQ: not in Caesars' current list of LINQ restaurants.
• Los Tacos No. 1: a New York City taquería; it has no Las Vegas location, despite appearing in some Vegas lists.
