About

Southern Highlands is a master-planned community in the southwest Las Vegas Valley. Its developer, Olympia Companies, says it sits just west of I-15 and surrounds Southern Highlands Golf Club. The developer puts it about 15 minutes from the Strip. Clark County's planning department lists Southern Highlands among the master-planned communities it treats as major projects.

The community is mostly homes, from builder neighborhoods to custom lots. At Olympia Ridge Estates, the developer says lots range from half an acre to several acres. A community association funds park upkeep, landscaping and a 24-hour roving security patrol through monthly assessments.

For visitors, the public face is its parks, its trail and two retail centers with restaurants and services.

What to expect

The community lists seven parks: Doctor Harry B. Johnson Rose Garden (Rose Park), Goett Park, Inzalaco Park, Jimmy Pettyjohn Jr. Park, Olympia Sports Park, Somerset Hills Park and Stonewater Park. Amenities across them include covered play areas, gazebos, water features, walking paths, and tennis and basketball courts. The community also has two dog parks.

The Paseo, a hiking and biking trail, winds through the community. Shopping and dining are in two neighborhood centers. The developer's directory lists a Smith's grocery store, Starbucks, sandwich shops, sushi, Korean barbecue and a Mexican cantina among its tenants.
