About
Mystère opened at Treasure Island on December 25, 1993. It was Cirque du Soleil's first resident show in Las Vegas, and Cirque says it plays only at TI.
Franco Dragone wrote and directed it, with Gilles Ste-Croix as director of creation. René Dupéré and Benoit Jutras composed the music. Treasure Island says the international cast has more than 65 performers, including dancers, singers, musicians and acrobats. Cirque founder Guy Laliberté is credited as founder and creative guide.
There is no single plot. Cirque frames the show as a journey from infancy into childhood, built around the idea that life itself is a mystery. A Baby character recurs through the evening. The score leans on Taiko drumming and original world music. Cirque presents the Chinese pole act as a symbol of organic life, growing like vines.
What to expect
Mystère is a string of classic circus acts linked by characters and clowning. Cirque lists Chinese poles, hand-to-hand balancing, aerial straps, trapeze and bungee, plus a bouncing "acrobatic playground" act. Musicians play live. The show runs about 90 minutes without an intermission, and TI suggests arriving 30 minutes early for pre-show entertainment.
It is open to all ages, but Cirque warns of loud noises, periods of darkness and other startling moments. Strobe lighting and theatrical fog are used throughout. Guests sensitive to those effects should decide for themselves whether to attend. Flash photography is not permitted during the show. Show merchandise is sold at the boutique at Treasure Island.
