About

The World Series of Poker is a summer-long series of poker tournaments, each awarding a gold bracelet, capped by the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em World Championship known as the Main Event. The WSOP says it has awarded more than $4 billion in prize money over six decades.

Casino magnate Benny Binion created the WSOP, first held in 1970 at Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas. Seven players took part and voted on the best among them; Johnny Moss was named the first champion. Chris Moneymaker's 2003 Main Event win set off what the WSOP calls the poker boom.

Since 2022 the series has been held at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas, two neighbouring resorts on the Strip. The 2025 series drew 246,960 entrants and paid out more than $481 million, both records, and the 2026 series was the 57th edition, with 100 bracelet events.

What to expect

The 2026 series opened May 26 with the $550 Mini Mystery Millions and ran to July 15, with events starting most days. The Main Event began July 2 and reached its final table on July 13; the last three days were played August 3-5, live on ESPN.

Registration is centred on the Versailles Ballroom in the Paris convention area, which in 2026 opened May 26 and ran from 7 AM to 5 AM daily. Players are encouraged to register online through the WSOP LIVE app, but first-time online registrants must verify their identity in person at least an hour before their event starts.

For spectators, the WSOP's tournament rules set out what non-players in the tournament rooms may and may not do. All bracelet events other than the Main Event were streamed free on the WSOP YouTube channel in 2026.
