About

SkyJump launches from level 108 of The STRAT tower at the north end of the Strip. The resort describes it as a controlled descent, like a vertical zip line. Jumpers wear a harness clipped to a cable and a descender machine, and guide wires keep them on course to a landing pad below.

The STRAT gives the drop as 829 feet in its attraction copy and the launch pad as 855 feet up in its FAQ. Jumpers reach speeds over 40 mph before being slowed for the landing. The resort says SkyJump holds a Guinness World Record as the highest commercial decelerator descent facility.

SkyJump opened in April 2010. The STRAT says it has logged more than 500,000 jumps, is inspected daily by its ride engineers, and is certified annually.

What to expect

You check in at the SkyJump store with ID, are weighed, and are suited up in a SkyJump jumpsuit and provided shoes. You get a locker with a key for your belongings. Then you ride the elevator to level 108, go through several safety checks, and step to the edge of the tower. Jumps are one person at a time.

After the jump, guide wires steer you down to the landing pad by the SkyJump store. Friends and family can watch from a viewing area with lounge chairs next to the pad. Personal phones and cameras are not allowed on the jump; photo and wrist-camera video packages are sold instead. The whole process takes about 35 to 45 minutes.

Questions about SkyJump Las Vegas at The STRAT

How much does SkyJump cost?

The STRAT lists a jump at $139.99 Monday through Thursday and $169.99 Friday through Sunday. Packages add photos, wristcam video, or unlimited tower rides, from $149.99 to $204.99. Nevada residents and STRAT hotel guests pay $99.99, and a $99 happy-hour price runs Monday-Thursday from 2 to 3 PM. Reservations depend on availability.

How old do you have to be to do SkyJump?

Jumpers must be 14 or older and show valid ID at check-in. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian present with valid ID, or a notarized letter of permission. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver confirming the minor is in good health and allowed to jump.

What are the height and weight limits?

Jumpers must be at least 52 inches tall, with no maximum height as long as the harness fits safely. Jumpers must weigh under 265 pounds; with the 10-pound harness and gear, the system's limit is 275 pounds. The STRAT asks your weight so each jumper descends at the right speed.

How long does the SkyJump experience take?

The STRAT estimates about 35 to 45 minutes in total. That covers getting into the jumpsuit, the elevator ride to level 108, several safety checks, standing on the ledge and the descent itself. Friends can browse the shops or watch from the viewing area beside the landing pad.

Can I film my jump with my own phone or GoPro?

No. The STRAT does not allow personal recording devices on the jump; only company-approved devices are permitted. You can buy a photo package, or a package with a personal wristcam video plus digital photos delivered on a USB stick. Store belongings in the locker provided before you go up.
